Terry Tackett

Wendell Terry Tackett was a lover of the land and wildlife. Born to Gertrude and Harold Tackett March 11, 1948, he grew up on the family farm near Tabor, Iowa. After graduating from Fremont-Mills High School, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During college Terry enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, serving three years as a radio operator at Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis. In April 1968, Sharon Moore and Terry were married. Into this union one daughter, Cynthia, was born.

Following his discharge from the Air Force, Terry graduated from college then began his 40 year career in the property casualty insurance industry, which gave him and his family opportunity to live in Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Baltimore and Lincoln. Terry retired in Lincoln in August 2013.

Terry was a strong, supporting and loving husband and father. The pride he had for each of his three grandchildren and their parents cannot be matched. As Terry enters the arms of God, he leaves a loving wife, Sharon of Lincoln, Ne, adoring daughter Cynthia and son-in-law, Brian Hegarty, and three wonderful grandchildren, Abbie, Brock and Libby all of Victoria, MN, brother Bill and Judy (Fichter) of Sugar Grove, IL, sisters Janice Chase of Chandler, AZ, Wava and brother-in-law Jim Furlong of Granger, IN, mother-in-law Evelyn (Moore) Howrey and Glen Howrey of Tabor, IA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Connie Moore of Tabor, IA, many aunts, uncles nieces, nephews, hunting and fishing buddies and so many friends. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gertrude Tackett, niece Glenda Dupius, and nephew Kevin Rubenking.

God did grant Terry his wish, to die doing something he loved. Although too soon, on February 16, 2014, Terry entered heaven while tending God's land at the family farm.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Tabor, IA with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. Visitation will be open after 5:00 PM Thursday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA. Interment will be in the Tabor, IA Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 of Tabor.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Hillcrest Country Club, 9401 East O Street, Lincoln, NE from 2:00-3:30 PM.
