FREMONT – A local homeless prevention agency is giving the community a chance to show their support.
Uniquely Yours Stability Support Inc. is hosting their first annual Community Charity Competition, extending through the end of the year.
After opening their downtown location on May 1st, 2014, UYSS is a local Agency Link Program that helps prevent and put an end to homelessness by collaborating with area business partners to help clients address their unique hardships.
The charity competition offers 12 categories to pick from, to which an individual or group would decide their fundraising effort.
CEO, Robin Ritter, says there are over one hundred people that come through their doors for services every month.
“Our idea was, since we are about pulling the community together and having our agencies work together…let’s turn that into a fundraising event. So we are reaching out to our community that, ‘this is fun!’ Here’s your great chance to contribute with a purpose and with confidence, knowing that you can help a lot of families,” Ritter says. “We get a lot of bang for our buck because of our service link provider.”
There are multiple awards given to the top fundraising efforts, and there is even a reward that reflects a certain untamed generosity. Program Director, Heather Evans, says the Bergh Benevolence Award, which is dedicated to a family who donated 50 percent of their income to UYSS for two years, highlights generosity that lies outside an individual or individual’s means.
“One of the great things about this competition is that, the fundraising that people and organizations would be doing are going directly to help families. We are helping prevent and end homelessness in our community,” Evans says. “So that is what your dollars, and your efforts, would be doing for the citizens of Fremont.”
