Horticulture Students Continue Courthouse Plantings
Nebraska City horticulture students added a new array of plants to the Otoe County courthouse Monday in the second year of the landscaping program.
County Commissioner Carol Crook said the students met with her to approve the new plantings, which include shrub roses, peonies, hydrongea and red twig dogwood.
Jim Nemec, agriculture educator, said the project gives students a hands-on experience with some of the principles they learn in the clasroom.
Senior Tabitha Hawk said her favorite is the redbud tree that centers the plantings on the west side of the front entrance.
