Blind Musician Tunes in with Ambient Music

A blind Nebraska City man has been experimenting with ambient music for just over a year after a suggestion from his friend, and he's been hooked ever since.
Jason McKown has been blind his entire life. Today he talked about what it's like being a musician without having the ability to see.
McKown: "I just find it really easy to concentrate on because I can listen in and pin-point the notes. I'm in tune to the sound. I can use that sound, and so by trial and error I was able to learn how to do it."
McKown hopes to make a career out of doing what he loves. He creates music playing PVC pipes, an African drum known as the "Jembe," as well as a flex-a-tone in areas that enhance natural re-verb.
Today McKown experimented with a 30-foot steel culvert for the first time, and has even dabbled in sewer drains searching for natural re-verb.
McKown also said that he hopes his music will take listeners on a journey while painting a picture in their minds.
