Hospital Establishes its First Social Worker Position
St. Mary's Community Hospital in Nebraska City introduced its first social worker at an open house Thursday.
Laura Bando-Ross, who was born in Nebraska City and is proud of the Pioneer mascot at her hometown high school, said she is excited to also pioneer the social work position at the hospital.
Bando-Ross: "I communicate with the facilities and the services, such as home health or hospice and any service they would need in the home, I help with that resource because they never had that before. The nurses were doing that there."
She also works at the medical clinic, helping assess patient needs and connecting them with Otoe County General Assistance, Southeast Nebraska Community Action, ministerial association or mental health services.
Bando-Ross earned her degree in psychology and sociology from Peru State College in 1998 and a masters in 2012. She also has gerontology certificate from University of Nebraska at Omaha.
